Nigerian Scholar Prof. Gwarzo Honoured in Paris for Advancing African Education

Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, a leading Nigerian educationist and reformer, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence by the prestigious Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to higher education across Africa.

The award ceremony, held on Friday, June 13, marked the university’s 100th anniversary and was the highlight of an international forum devoted to fostering African research and academic collaboration.

Cité Universitaire—ranked first among French academic institutions and twelfth across Europe—described Prof. Gwarzo’s work as transformative and global in its reach.

As founder of the MAAUN (Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria) Group of Universities and President of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), Prof. Gwarzo has worked tirelessly to democratize access to higher education and elevate academic standards across the continent.

Celebrating a Legacy of Innovation

Presenting the award, Senator Jean Mac Sauve, President of the Cité Universitaire, lauded Prof. Gwarzo as a “visionary alumnus whose life work honours France and uplifts Africa.” He credited Gwarzo for redefining educational possibilities across the continent and inspiring new partnerships between African and international institutions.

“Prof. Gwarzo exemplifies what it means to be a global scholar with local impact,” Senator Sauve said. “His leadership has given rise to institutions that not only educate but empower future generations.”

Representing Nigeria at the event, Dr. Hajo Sani, Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, celebrated the award as a triumph for African intellectual excellence. “This recognition is long overdue,” she said. “Prof. Gwarzo’s work has touched thousands. He is a national asset whose vision is now being acknowledged on the global stage.”

Dr. Sani also shared a personal note, saying, “My own children have benefitted from his institutions. He has given hope to countless families across our region.”

A Homeward Call to African Scholars

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Gwarzo expressed gratitude to France and to the university that nurtured his early academic journey. But he also issued a passionate call to the African diaspora.

“Our continent is filled with promise,” he said. “But we must return—not just physically, but intellectually and institutionally. We must turn our knowledge into impact.”

He pledged to continue expanding the MAAUN Group across Africa and to ensure that African students gain access to quality, globally relevant education without leaving the continent.

Toward a New Era in African Higher Education

Prof. Gwarzo’s recognition comes at a pivotal time. As African nations increasingly invest in education and innovation, his model—locally anchored but globally connected—offers a compelling roadmap for the future.

His efforts have already produced thriving institutions in Nigeria and beyond, linking African students with international curricula, faculty, and opportunities.

The ceremony concluded with a standing ovation from international diplomats, academics, and education policymakers who had gathered to celebrate a century of learning—and to look ahead to the next hundred years.

In Prof. Gwarzo, many saw not only an exceptional scholar but a symbol of Africa’s educational awakening.

As one delegate noted, “His story shows that when vision meets commitment, entire generations are transformed.”

Gbagyi Coalition Blasts El-Rufai, Labels Ex-Governor a “Bitter Power Monger” Over Attacks on Tinubu

Odeh Obeku
Kaduna

The Coalition of Gbagyi Nationality in Kaduna State has unleashed a blistering attack on former Kaduna Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of being consumed by political bitterness and desperate ambition following his exclusion from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet.

In a no-holds-barred press conference held Monday in Kaduna, the Gbagyi coalition accused El-Rufai of launching “unprovoked and hypocritical attacks” on President Tinubu simply because he was denied a ministerial appointment. According to the coalition, El-Rufai’s recent outbursts are not born of patriotism or principle, but of petty vindictiveness.

“Since losing his bid to secure a ministerial position, El-Rufai has been like a man scorned — inconsolable, erratic, and hell-bent on tearing down the house he once pretended to build,” the group stated. “His tirades against President Tinubu are not ideological—they are the tantrums of a man denied the power he so desperately craves.”

Describing El-Rufai as a man with no moral compass, the group said he lacks the credibility to position himself as a defender of the masses. “It is the height of political hypocrisy that the same El-Rufai who thrived on authoritarianism and exclusion now claims to speak for democracy and unity,” they said. “The man who silenced voices is now pretending to champion free speech.”

The Gbagyi leaders did not mince words in recalling what they called the “tyrannical legacy” of El-Rufai’s administration in Kaduna State, which they say left behind a trail of pain, destruction, and disenfranchisement—particularly for communities in Southern Kaduna.

“Our people’s homes were demolished without mercy. Our voices were muted, our presence erased from governance, and our communities left to rot in insecurity and neglect,” the statement charged. “Markets vanished overnight, roads to our villages became death traps, and bandits roamed freely while El-Rufai played politics with our lives.”

They described El-Rufai’s current anti-Tinubu posture as “laughable and fraudulent,” coming from a man who, they allege, would be singing a different tune if he had been appointed Minister.

“El-Rufai’s so-called coalition is nothing but a desperate gathering of political orphans rallying behind a man driven by revenge. Let it be clear: this has nothing to do with national interest and everything to do with his bruised ego.”

The coalition warned Nigerians, especially the people of Kaduna State, not to be swayed by what they called “El-Rufai’s deceitful crusade,” declaring that the Gbagyi Nation and the Middle Belt reject his leadership in any form.

“He failed us as governor, now he wants to fail the nation. But we see through the smoke. We will not forget. We will not be fooled.”

In a final jab, the coalition hailed President Tinubu for remaining focused amid distractions and reaffirmed their support for his administration.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his courage in confronting the rot left by past administrations. He must not be distracted by the noise of those who once ruled with an iron fist but now whimper from the sidelines. The Gbagyi people say: NEVER AGAIN to El-Rufai’s politics of oppression and deceit.”

Attempts to reach El-Rufai for a response were unsuccessful as of press time.

You are the architects of Banditry, Hunger,Shehu Sani Blasts Elrufai , Amaechi

Apparently angered by the recent attacks on the President, Former lawmaker , Senator Shehu Sani took a swipe at the former Kaduna and Rivers State governors , Mal Nasir Elrufai, who and Routine Amaechi ,who accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating policies that heightened hunger and poverty across the country.

According to Shehu Sani, Elrufai and Amaechi should hold their heads in shame for failing to tackle same problems or insecurity; poverty and hunger during their days as Governors because they are the architects of banditry and hunger they talked about.

El-Rufai recently declared that Nigerians have allowed bandits to occupy positions of authority, while speaking at a Public Lecture to celebrate former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amechi, said, “What we have done in this country is to allow bandits, not the ones in the bushes, the urban bandits, to take over the governance of our country.”

However ,Shehu Sani who addressed journalists on State of the Nation at his Kaduna residence today, said all those who held public office and positions of authority under the former President Muhammadu Buhari don’t have the moral rights to speak about the issues of banditry, poverty and hunger because they failed to tackle them when in office.

He accused them of witch hunting and working against the Tinubu led government because they either failed to secure ministerial positions or appointed in the cabinet.

Speaking further he said ,”There is nothing wrong in criticizing a government or leader, but when it is done out of selfish interests rather genuine course it becomes a problem.

The Senator, who represented Kaduna Central zone at the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani, lambasted Elrufai and other leaders who controlled the affairs of the country, but failed to turn the Northern region into a socio-economic paradise over the years.

“Nigeria is not just a country; it is a country that came from horrible and terrible experiences as a nation. And we ought to learn from our past experiences in order not to repeat the same experience. So I want to call on the people to caution the elements who had the opportunity to turn the North into a paradise but left it as a hell; today, such elements are crying foul for no reason other than that they have been excluded from government.

“So their grievance is about their own personal interests and not about the people, not about the North, not about the masses, not about insecurity and governance. However, everybody has the right to voice their opinions, but it shouldn’t be done in such a way as to burn down the country.

“Under the last administration, all the security apparatus were of Northern extraction; they never stopped terrorism in the North, they never stopped banditry in the Northwest, they never stopped killings in Benue State, in Plateau, and most parts of North Central states.

“The insecurity in the North is not yet over. Bandits are still killing people; they are kidnapping people in Katsina State, they are still doing that in Zamfara State. There are major killings on the roads by bandits. But if we are going to compare it to where we are coming from, I think things are better. The Chief of Defence has relatively been able to bring peace to the southern part of Kaduna, which was neglected and abandoned when Governor Nasir El-Rufai was in power. We know the Birnin Gwari road; it used to be a road that was inaccessible because of banditry.

“Banditry happened every hour, not every day, for eight years along the Birnin Gwari road. Now people can travel day and night. When last did you hear of an attack since the attack on Kuriga school? When last did you hear of an attack on any school in the state? So for those of us, when you compare the government headed by someone who came from our own part of the country and the government headed by someone who is not from our own part of the country, I think it is important for those of us from the North to appreciate the relative progress they have made.

” We have seen many things that were brought in, and we only demand more. But my message is also to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that more should be done in terms of addressing challenges in the Northern part of Nigeria, and critics should be listened to, and where there are lies, they should be responded to. And this country will be great if there is development in all parts of Nigeria,” Shehu Sani said.

2nd Anniversary: Alex Otti’s Govt Lacks Accountability, Transparency – APC

*Accuses Gov of running ‘one-man show’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Governor Alex Otti of Abia state, describing his administration as a “one-man show” driven by propaganda rather than purpose.

Abia State chapter of the party, however, assured the people and residents in the state of a competent hand devoid of propaganda and a one-man show.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Partners in the state, which held late on Sunday, Abia State APC Chairman, Dr. Kingsley C. Ononogbu, said a “better and truly new Abia” is still possible under the right leadership.

The Renewed Hope Partners is a support group of the party solely mobilizing support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027 general elections.

According to Ononogbu, the inauguration marks the beginning of the journey aimed at repositioning Abia State for the Renewed Hope Crusade, and I believe so because I can see on the faces of everyone here, the search for a truly new Abia State.

He said: “When we read and listen to social media hype and praises, regarding the state of Abia, one often wonders if it is the same Abia State that we live in.

“Abia State today is nothing but a “A One Man Show” anchored on a very well oiled propaganda machinery. Accountability is long gone. Checks and balances non existent while conflict of interest is now a norm.

“A government of one man show from his private home and for selected friends and cronies. A government where the governor operates as the chief executive, chief accountant and the auditor.

“An administration that would prefer to convert a newly built government house to a 5 star hotel, while operating necodemously from his personal house. And for the roads being built newly, the style of collation, scrutiny, and award of the contracts falls below acceptable standard of state (F&GPC) and best practice.”

The APC chieftain declared that the Renewed Hope Partners must come to terms with the fact that they are support groups of the party and must partner with the party in its collective efforts to reach out to the grassroots across the country.

“When our people are well informed, they will stand firmly to rebuke and resist the sugar- coated lies of the deceitful coalition oppositions.”

He assured that the party will not only win at the federal level in 2027 “but APC will also win in Abia State.”

He also called on all the APC stakeholders in the state to be more united, saying “in the spirit of the ongoing reconciliations as directed by the President and accepted by all the critical Stakeholders of Abia APC , I urge all APC members in Abia State who for one reason or the other have been staying away from the activities of the party in the state to come back home.”

MBF Cries Out: Middle Belt Is Under Siege, Not a Herders-Farmers Clash

By  Mary Nwaku

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has condemned what it calls a sustained, coordinated, and state-enabled campaign of terror across Nigeria’s north-central region, declaring that the ongoing violence is not a “herders-farmers clash” as often portrayed but a well-orchestrated ethno-religious cleansing carried out by heavily armed Fulani militias.

In a powerful press statement signed by MBF spokesperson Luka Binniyat on Sunday, June 2, the Forum expressed outrage over fresh waves of deadly attacks in Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Niger, Kaduna, and Kebbi states, while also mourning the devastation caused by recent flooding in Niger State that claimed over 120 lives.

Death and Displacement in Niger State

The MBF began by expressing deep sympathy for victims of a catastrophic flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, where entire communities along the Jebba-Mokwa road—including Muwo, Katcha, Rabba, and other settlements—were submerged by rising waters. The floods left more than 120 dead and hundreds displaced, destroying homes, farmlands, and livelihoods.

“This is a humanitarian catastrophe,” the Forum said. “We urge both state and federal emergency services to urgently deliver food, shelter, and rehabilitation support.”

Plateau State: Communities Under Fire

Transitioning from natural disaster to man-made tragedy, the MBF strongly condemned renewed attacks in Plateau State. According to the statement, at least 18 people were killed in the past week in night raids and ambushes across Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area and in Riyom and Bassa LGAs. Communities such as Maiyanga, Butura, Hurum, and Gana-Ropp reportedly suffered assaults by armed Fulani militias.

“This carnage is unacceptable,” the MBF said, warning that government silence and lack of action were emboldening the attackers. “These are not sporadic acts of violence; they are calculated efforts to destroy entire populations.”

Benue State: Mass Displacement Without Accountability

The Forum reported that the Tiv and Idoma lands of Benue State are experiencing unrelenting waves of violent displacement. In Gwer West Local Government Area alone, all 15 council wards have reportedly been overrun. In Guma LGA, six wards have suffered similar fates. Gwer East’s Mbalom ward has also been emptied of its inhabitants, while Kwande and Makurdi LGAs continue to report high numbers of internally displaced persons.

According to the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), over 50 communities across 25 council wards in the five affected LGAs have been displaced.

“These attacks are not random. They are strategic, systematic, and aimed at the total displacement of indigenous populations,” the MBF insisted.

Taraba and Kebbi: The Terror Spreads

In Taraba State, the MBF reported that no fewer than 50 residents of Munga Lalau and Munga Doso villages in Karim Lamido LGA were murdered in recent weeks. Homes were razed, and survivors fled with little more than the clothes on their backs.

Similarly, in Southern Kebbi State—specifically in Danko-Wasagu and Fakai LGAs—at least 12 villages have been sacked by armed groups in recent months, with thousands now displaced and seeking refuge in neighboring towns.

“This pattern of violence is not rooted in grazing disputes or climate change,” Binniyat said. “It is ideological, it is strategic, and it is genocidal.”

Southern Kaduna: Communities Gone Silent

The MBF also highlighted the plight of Southern Kaduna, where over 60 communities across Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Kauru, Chikun, and Kajuru LGAs have been destroyed. The Forum claims that thousands of indigenous people—mostly Christians—have been killed or driven from their ancestral lands since the wave of violence began several years ago.

“These communities were vibrant. Today, many of them are ghost towns,” the Forum said.

A Rejection of False Narratives

The MBF firmly rejected any attempt to portray the violence in the Middle Belt as “herders-farmers conflict,” calling such framing a dangerous oversimplification and a tool of misinformation.

“This is not a conflict. This is conquest,” Binniyat stated. “We reject any narrative that seeks to justify or downplay this genocide.”

According to the Forum, the attackers often outgun Nigerian security forces and operate with near impunity, suggesting they enjoy state-level protection or at least tolerance.

“Survivors often know their attackers by name, yet no one is arrested. No one is prosecuted. This is a failure of justice,” the Forum said.

MBF’s Demands to the Federal Government

In light of what it described as “the wholesale failure of security institutions,” the MBF issued an urgent call to the Federal Government to take the following actions:

1. Immediate recruitment and deployment of local forest guards and civilian volunteers who understand the terrain and can support overstretched federal forces.

2. Provision of arms, logistics, and communication tools to ensure that these defenders are not outgunned by invading militias.

3. Declaration of a security emergency across the Middle Belt, followed by special military operations to retake captured territories and dismantle terror cells.

4. Rejection of misleading government narratives that suggest the violence is due to environmental or economic pressures.

“The Federal Government must stop shielding criminals with excuses. What we are witnessing is a campaign of targeted violence driven by ideology, impunity, and a ruthless thirst for domination,” Binniyat said.

A Final Warning

The MBF concluded its statement with a grim warning that if government inaction persists, communities may be forced to take matters into their own hands.

“Our people, known for their hospitality and resilience, are now facing extermination in silence. We demand justice. We demand protection,” the Forum declared. “We must not be pushed to seek untoward ways to defend our lives, lands, and dignity.”

A Nation at a Crossroads

As violence, displacement, and fear spread across the Middle Belt, the MBF’s statement underscores a growing national crisis. With large swathes of territory now reportedly under the control of armed militias and entire populations on the move, analysts warn that Nigeria’s center may no longer be holding.

“The Middle Belt is bleeding,” the MBF concluded. “And the silence of the state is deafening.”

N2b Constituency Projects: Group Condemns Senator Lawal Adamu for inability to Deliver Projects

… Insists He’s a Complete Failure,Vows to mobilise against his re-election

Kaduna Central Movement for Development (KCMD) has described the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Lawal Adamu popularly known as Mr.LA as a “Complete failure “for his inability to use the alleged increased funds allocated for visible constituency projects.

According to the group ,it is almost two years that Senator Adamu was elected to represent the people of Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, Giwa, Birnin-Gwari and Igabi local government areas that make up Kaduna Central senatorial district.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Ayodele Asalu, had publicly alleged a substantial increase in constituency project allocations for federal lawmakers following the removal of the fuel subsidy last year.

In a statement in response to the revelations that each Senator receives a minimum of ₦2 billion annually for constituency projects and each member of the House of Representatives now receives at least ₦1 billion, the group expressed shock over inability of the People’s Democratic Party lawmaker, Senator Adamu to improve lives of constituency members.

In the statement signed by the Chairman of the Kaduna Central Movement,Comrade Yahaya Babangida the group said ,” A good lawmaker and member of the main opposition party would have would have capilsed on this opportunity o is supposed to use the opportunity to make a difference.”

Information gathered revealed that these funds, officially designated as constituency allowances, are federal allocations intended to support lawmakers in addressing local socio-economic needs and fostering rural development within their constituencies.

While condemning Senator LA for lack of visible projects despite huge funds released for constituency projects,it dared him to provide records funds received and what they were used for .

As group of concerned members of the Kaduna Central senatorial district, with members across the 7 local government areas of the district, we are prepared to mobilise the electorate to ensure that he doesn’t return to floor of the Senate come 2025 .

The group however credited the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the upward review, suggesting the move was intended to improve citizens’ lives by empowering elected representatives to deliver more tangible developmental projects at the grassroots level.

Nigerians In Diaspora Back Out of Planned Protest Against Mele Kyari

Planned Protest: Nigerians in Diaspora Withdraw Action Against Kyari

Nigerians based in United States under the umbrella of Nigerians in Diaspora for Peace and Unity today withdrawn its earlier decision to embark on Protest against for Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engineer Mele Kyari on suspicion that it was sponsored.

According to group with its headquarters in Washington D.C, it didn’t get its facts right, when the decision to embark on the Protest was made, thus was misled to believe that Kyari mismanaged the country’s oil company.

“We were ready to move to the street to protest because we were made to believe Kyari fled Nigeria to avoid accountability for financial misconduct during his six-year tenure at NNPCL from 2019 to 2025.” It stated .

It was widely reported that that hundreds of Nigerians had protested at the Nigerian High Commission and the UK Home Office in London, calling for the deportation of former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) boss, Mele Kyari, to face corruption investigations in Nigeria.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists today, the Nigerians in Diaspora for Peace and Unity announced that it has withdrawn from the planned protest schedule for Friday and orders members across United and United Kingdom to comply with the directive.

The group in the statement signed by the Chairman ,Chief Sebastian West Lokpobiri explained: “We did set a 10-man fact finding committee ahead of the scheduled date for the protest and later discovered that the former NNPCL boss rather did well to reposition the company and shouldn’t be ridiculed

The statement further reads : “We also discovered that NNPCL under Kyari was not only revived to produce refined Petrol for our teeming population, but it operational lines were transparent; effective and profit oriented.

“As group,we don’t take actions blindly without digging up the facts behind any issue raised from public discourse or disenchantment. It is against this background that we have decided to suspend action to embark on protest.

“We therefore advise other groups that have been misled or sponsored to protest to suspend action and commend Kyari efforts to resuscitate our once comatose oil company.”
