TRANSFORMING LIVES AND COMMUNITIES: Arewa Ears Community Development Forum and SMEDAN Join Hands to Address Socio-Economic Challenges in Northern Nigeria

By Ibrahim H. Tinja

Arewa Ears Community Development Forum, in an effort to lend support to other Northerners who are in dire need of upliftment of their lives, has expressed interest in establishing a partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), a government establishment to assist Nigerians.

We are greatly impressed by the work SMEDAN has been doing under the leadership of Dr. Charles Odii since his appointment as Director General in October 2023. Arewa Ears is currently recognized as one of the most outstanding organizations in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region, for its unwavering commitment to providing hope and a sense of belonging to the common citizens across the 19 Northern states.

Some of what we have achieved include offering entrepreneurship skills training and providing support to individuals to kickstart small businesses, enabling them to meet their basic needs and enhance their livelihood. We firmly believe that addressing the root causes of issues such as hunger, poverty, and unemployment is crucial in promoting peace and stability in any society.

Arewa Ears understands that hunger can lead to anger, and unchecked anger can escalate to violence. We recognize that beneath the surface of anger lie deep-seated emotions such as hurt, fear, frustration, sadness, and vulnerability. By addressing these underlying emotions and providing sustainable solutions, we aim to foster a peaceful and prosperous environment in the Northern region of Nigeria.

It is disheartening to witness the transformation of the once peaceful and welcoming Northern region into an area plagued by ignorance, banditry, poverty, child trafficking, unemployment, and various forms of criminal activities. However, we are optimistic that through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, we can effect positive change and uplift the lives of the people in the region.

We equally believe that collaborating with SMEDAN, we can leverage our respective strengths and resources to create greater impact and reach more needy individuals. Together, we can work towards building a more resilient and thriving community in the Northern states of Nigeria.

We would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss potential areas of collaboration and explore how our organizations can complement each other’s efforts towards achieving our shared goals. Your support and partnership would be invaluable in advancing our collective mission of promoting entrepreneurship, reducing poverty, and fostering sustainable development in the Northern region.

We identify SMEDAN as a crucial entity in addressing pressing issues, particularly concerning poverty and unemployment, within the 19 Northern states. During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of Arewa Ears Community Development Forum, Ambassador Mohammed Muazu, who was accompanied by his fellow members, Ambassador Sadiq Ibrahim Adamu, Ambassador Nura Garba Ahmad, Ambassador Sudais Suleiman Sokoto, Ambassador Lawan Munkailla, Ambassador Hadiza Mohammed Borno, and Ambassador Ibrahim Hussain Tinja, recently had a meeting with the Director General of SMEDAN, Dr. Charles Odii, along with Ms. Bridget Ohikhokai – Deputy Director F&A, and Alh. Moshood Lawal – Head Corporate Affairs (SMEDAN).

During the meeting, Ambassador Mohammed Muazu briefed the Director General, Dr. Odii, on what Arewa Ears Community Development Forum is all about and its mission and vision to promote and develop the good people of Northern Nigeria, irrespective of religion, tribe, and ethnicity. Ambassador Muazu highlighted the urgency of intervention in certain states that are mostly affected by unemployment. He informed plans to launch sensitization programs targeting youth in these states and invited SMEDAN to actively participate in these initiatives.

He disclosed that Arewa Ears Community Development Forum is an organization dedicated to addressing the pressing issues that are affecting the people of Northern Nigeria, particularly high levels of poverty and unemployment. Ambassador Muazu expressed his concerns about these issues and emphasized the need for collaboration with SMEDAN to support their cause. He also highlighted the fact that poverty and unemployment are major root causes of insurgency in the region, which has destabilized the entire Northern region.

Responding, Dr. Charles Odii promised to collaborate with Arewa Ears Community Development Forum and support their efforts to address these issues. He pledged to travel to all 19 Northern states of Nigeria together with Arewa Ears to raise awareness and find solutions to the challenges facing the region. He also committed to supporting 3000 active members of Arewa Ears with sensitization programs and professional entrepreneurship skills training through the application of INITIAL CREATE START SKILLS (ICSS) and Empowerment programs.

The meeting between Arewa Ears Community Development Forum and SMEDAN marks a significant step towards addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Northern Nigeria. By working together, these organizations can make a real difference in the lives of the people in the region and help create a more prosperous and stable future for all.

Memo To The Newly Elected Governors

By; MURTALA ADOGI MOHAMMED

Congratulations to all the brand new elected and re-elected Governors. Is not easy! The time to hit the ground running is NOW!

However, you need to know that, the work of a Governor begins with a transition period and if the primary responsibility of the Governor is to govern, that begs the question, HOW?

One thing you need to know is that campaigns are over, now it’s time to think and answers some of these questions – such as

  1. How can I approach the job as a newly elected Governor?
  2. How can I convert my campaign promises into Agenda & Results?
  3. What is expected of me as a newly elected Governor as per things to do before the inauguration?
  4. Want immediate decisions must be made?
  5. What are the key things I need to do as per – policy development, governance, and communication tools?

In responding to some of these questions here are 7 Low Hanging fruits for a quick win…

  1. Constitute a transition team with robust TOR, remember you only have two months to inauguration. As Governor-elect you will soon have full power and responsibility of the executive branch of the state. Constitutionally and practically – the statutory power of the Governor is often perceived by new Governors as more limited than they imagine.. The Notes developed by the transition committee will give you an insight into what is expected of you.
  2. Constitute a technical team to handle the transition, you need a combination of technocrats and politicians. The ability of the Governor-elect to navigate the difficulties of governing will largely depend on the quality of work done by the transition team
  3. Begin to build and nurture relationships with other arms of government, to effectively navigate the turbulent waters of governance, you need to have a strong working relationship with civil servants, legislatures, the press, and the public… Begin to do that today, through breakfast meetings and dinner.
  4. On making appointments, the most important decisions a governor-elect will make during the transition will be selecting individuals to staff the Governor’s office, central management agencies, and executive council. Apart from individuals you also need a ‘team’ that will drive and coordinate the day-to-day running of the state. Competence, character, and commitment should be paramount in engaging people to work with.
  5. Follow the rules of the game, and look at the processes of your administration as important tools to accomplish your key objectives. Communicate your goals to the team members, your target, milestones, and results should be very clear to all. As a newly elected Governor, make sure you keep your priorities firmly focused
  6. Implementation of the 4 Years Strategic Plan – if you have one, good! If don’t have to develop one within 6 months of your administration. Immediately upon taking office, the Governor-elect is expected to be a master of the intricacies of the state government. Plans and programmes are the lifeblood of the state government, including emergency response plans and tracking of people’s complaints, and delivery of results
  7. Media Team and Press Relations, we are in the era of people surviving through ‘cooking and sharing fake news’, therefore as a Governor-elect, you need a robust media team. Engaging the electorates through social media and offline. Mistakes at the beginning of your tenure can lead to serious challenges. Using the full power of press relations is not all about daily updates on social media, but it is about the overall narrative of the governor’s tenure…..

In conclusion, you need to know that, the transition period of a new Governor has often been described as the most intense period after the campaign. Also, you need to know that…successful Governors are principles leaders who remain in touch with their constituents. Remember to shape your administration with leadership, management, results tracking, and communication tools.

The first 3 appointments, Chief of Staff, Spokesman, and SSG – will tell who you are, not as Governor, but as LEADER!

Governor Aishatu Dahiru Binani: Adamawa on the cusps of history

By Dahiru Sani

… Heralding the ascension of Nigeria’s towering amazon to seat of power

… Why Fintiri mimicks her projects

… Survey gives her 70 percent margin of victory

… How her fear pushes Fintiri to go on overdrive, engage in last minute vote buying

… Real reasons why she enjoys cult like follower-ship

Adamawa State, the land of beauty is on the threshold of history as Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani is set to make a triumphant entry into the Dougirei seat of power as the first elected female governor in Nigeria’s political annals come March 18, 2023.

Going by the pulse of the state one can say with absolute certainty and precision that Binani is only few days away from the government house as her election as the successor to governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a fait accompli if popular votes are the drivers of electoral victory.

Apart from former governor Murtala Nyako, no governorship candidate enjoyed an unprecedented, cult like follower-ship and the goodwill Binani is currently enjoying which made many to believe that the March 18 election is going to be a walk over as Binani makes a scintillating and spectacular outing to the Dougirei seat of power.

Her popularity was reinforced by a survey recently conducted by an independent survey firm, Democracy Watch Network (DWN) in one of the biggest vox populi ever conducted in the state.

According to Mr. Stephen Godwin head research, planning and statistics, of DWN, Binani is set to emerge victorious with about 70 percent margin of victory which is unprecedented in the history of election in the state.

He said the survey which was carried out meticulously in the course of nine months involved over 500,000 respondents across the 21 local governments of the state with 95% degree of confidence.

He noted that women, youth and the people living with disability have the greatest preference for the female candidate as 80 percent of them endorsed her ambition. They expressed optimism that with Binani occupying the driver’s seat in Adamawa, they expect enhanced lifestyles, serious empowerment drive and a robust social investment packages which will save many families from the rampaging poverty currently ravaging the state.

Also corroborating DWN, a politician in Adamawa State, Sen. Ahmed Barata predicted a landslide victory for the female politician going by the avalanche of goodwill she enjoys on account of her meritorious service to the people.

“I have no doubt that the sassy, ebullient and enigmatic candidate of APC, senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani a woman with large heart and a solid reputation of philanthropy and excellent service to humanity will trounce her male contenders especially the governor anytime any day.

“Sen. Binani, has paid her dues in leadership excellence and service to humanity; attributes that project her well above her competitors and will reap abundantly from the reservoir of goodwill she invested for years in the people.

“Binani has brought glamour, allure and colour to the all important business of leadership. Her sojourn into the realm of public service and politics has yielded unprecedented dividends to the people. Binani has broken leadership myths of under performance, raised the bar of good governance and upped the expectations of people from those they invested their future in. This has brought a paradigm shift of enhanced performance by those we elected in Adamawa State,” he said.

How destiny people’s will pushed Binani into politics

Binani’s sojourn into politics is predicated by destiny and the people’s prodding, two factors that conspired to push her into the game of numbers even against the will of her husband, Dr. Ahmed Modibbo at first instance.

Before she joined politics, Sen Binani was a budding young business woman who invested heavily on the people. Because of her interest to touch the lives of the people through philanthropy, she opened an NGO under whose canopy she began her massive empowerment drive in Yola South and Yola North being her immediate constituency.

Through that rare gesture, Binani was able to bring succour and relief to poor households, engaged in massive empowerment of women, youths and people living with disability, provided scholarships to orphans and other indigent students as well as ambulances to both christians and Muslims in the two local governments and many more.

Like the proverbial golden fish, Binani’s giant intervention which was phenomenal in history attracted massive goodwill to her from the people who issued a fiat directing her to go into politics so as to serve them better.

But as a married woman Binani referred them to her husband Dr. Modibbo who told them point blank that his wife is not carrying out the humanitarian intervention for reward and hence he declined the request.

The people who could not allow a good opportunity to pass by remained undaunted and kept pushing till Dr. Modibbo surrendered and gave his wife the green light to go ahead because of the belief that the prodding of the people is archetypal to a national call to duty.

Infact, Binani earned her popular political acclaim and sobriquet Kiran Jama’a (call to national duty) from that happenstance. In the first instance the people prodded her to represent Yola South, Yola North and Girei federal constituency. With the support of the people she became the first female in history to represent her people at that level. After satisfactory representation culminating in massive accrual of democracy dividends never witnessed before, the people again promoted her to the Senate.

After a spectacular performance at the Nigerian senate, the people also deemed it fit to again prod the amazon for a higher call of duty which translates to her phenomenal victory at the APC guvernorship primaries where she defeated her five male opponents comprehensively to the extent that the cumulative votes scored by the five candidates are less than her votes.

“It should be stressed here that Binani has never vied for any political office on account of her personal interest. She is always pushed by the people that is why she is in the habit of winning elections with landslides because it is the people who want her not the other way round.

“And the covenant between her and the electorates has been fulfilling and rewarding. On their parts the people willingly give her their mandates and she in return provides dividends of democracy to them.

“The reason why people asked her to vie for governorship position is due to her sturdy performance while in the senate. Despite being a senator she works like a governor by carrying out capital intensive projects like building of roads, hospitals, sinking of industrial boreholes providing empowerment packages and starter packs to hundreds of thousands of people. She has also made good laws whose impacts will outlive her.

“As a senator, she also turned Adamawa into her constituency as people from Madagali to Toungo, Guyuk to Belel recieved her support in the areas of skills acquisition, provision of empowerment packages, farm implements and starter packs which really helped a lot of families.

“Many people thought Binani won the last APC guvernorship primaries because of the influence of women. That is not true. Binani won that election overwhelmingly because she is the most sought after candidate who got genuine support from men and women alike as a payback for her immense gestures.

“She will still replicate similar feat of victory in the coming guvernorship election more than the primaries because the people will come out en masse to vote for her on account of her goodwill, track record of excellence ebullience, empathy and higher expectations,” Barata added.

Fintiri mimicks Binani’s gesture, earn rebuke as people cry foul

But in his attempt to score a political point, governor Fintiri has in a move many described as copycat, has been forced to take detour from his vow not to accord the people the much sought after “stomach infrastructure” which equates to empowerment by hastily organizing what could be described as a vote buying frenzy days after the March 11, guvernorship and state assembly election was postponed.

The governor according to reports has pencilled down Tuesday for the program in which no fewer than 10,000 women will receive a token of N50,000 from the governor.

But political analyst in the state who described the governor’s move as an attempt to buy people’s conscience rebuked him for his primitive desperation and abuse of privileges and perks of office.

They urged those lucky to be involved by the superfluous empowerment to collect the package but vote according to their conscience during the coming election as vote buying constitutes a gross human rights abuse.

They recalled that due to the governor’s failure to assist the people, one of his associates, Hon. Umar openly counsels the governor to direct his energy in providing succour to ameliorate the suffering of the citizens, but the governor through one of his aides Saidu Sarkin Zana excoriated and blackmailed Umar for daring to tell truth to power and even forced Umar to withdrew his statement on the strength that the governor was not happy with his submission.

Feelers from the government house indicated that after INEC shifted the guvernorship and state assembly election from March 11, to March 18, the governor planned a deceptive empowerment package ostensibly to empower 10,000 women. But investigation indicated that the number is over exaggerated as the women pencilled down for empowerment are in the region of 600.

“The governor has no such plans to empower the women but Binani’s serious empowerment is making him to lose sleep. So the shift of the polls offered him a window to decieve our mothers by lying that he will empower about 10,000 of them with N50,000 capital to start businesses.

“In truth, the program is a complete sham and dead on arrival. It is stage managed to decieve the women as the government does not have the capacity to compile the names of 10,000 women within a short period of time. So instead a handful number of women that may pass as mistresses, concubines and relatives to some highly placed people were quickly put together for the ruse,” a source close to the government house said.

Another fear induced action taken by the governor as a result of the Binani phenomenon is the proscription of activities of NGOs over a phantom allegation of vote buying. The rash and imperious action as expected has precipitated considerable disquiet in the state as stakeholders said such action is a crude display of power and an attempt to muscle peoples rights at will.

Feelers also reveal that the governor has few weeks ago in a futile attempt to deny Binani the opportunity to participate in the election has sought an experte motion to debar her from participating in the polls but sources said the attempt was frustrated by the judiciary which asserted her independence by refusing to tow the governor’s doomed path.

Why Binani enjoyed cult follower-ship in Adamawa

Binani currently straddles Adamawa political space like a colossus and enjoyed massive goodwill from the people on account of her passion, empathy, support and down to earth posture.

She is a woman that can go to any length to fight for the development of her state and the people through direct empowerment, life changing projects and impactful laws.

A conservative estimate has it that since her sojourn into politics, Binani has empowered no fewer than 100,000 people and has addressed multi-dimensional poverty which straddles many communities.

“In the last four years, Binani has carried out a number of critical life changing projects that only a governor can attempt and touches the lives of all Adamawa citizens despite being only a senator. Such display of wit, spiritedness, valour and can do spirit was the major reason why she will win election in Adamawa State any day,” Hon. Sen Barata added.

EXPOSED: Fintiri’s dubious political deals to retain power at all cost

How gov cunningly blindfolded Ribadu, CAN, Atiku, Tukur, Aisha Buhari into supporting his second term bid

By Dahiru Sani

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s foxy political scheming to retain power at all cost come March 11, 2023 guvernorship election has been unveiled. In one of the most diabolic political maneuvers in history, the governor has deceptively lured even his arch political rivals and opponents into supporting his second term bid.

EXPOSED: Fintiri’s dubious political deals to retain power at all cost

Findings by this paper indicated that the governor is cunningly using a double-edged snare and fake promises to entrap his unsuspecting political preys into his booby trap.

Information available to this paper indicated that the governor has through the dubious promises cajoled a number of political gladiators with a promise to anoint them as his successors if they support his second term ambition

Some of the governor’s victims according to sources close to the politicians include, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Aisha Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and his close associates, professor Liman Tukur and Awwal D. Tukur.

Multiple sources close to the seat of power disclosed that Fintiri has enlisted the support of Nuhu Ribadu into his second term project by promising to handover power to him at the end of his second tenure.

In the same vein, the governor also made former vice president Atiku Abubakar to believe that he will handover power to his first son, Adamu Atiku Abubakar upon the expiration of his second tenure.

The governor has also allegedly promised CAN of anointing a Christian as his successor so as to curry their favour in the coming election and at the same time promised to anoint professor Liman Tukur as well as Awwal D. Tukur as his successors.

This paper learnt that energized by such promises all the affected persons and groups are reportedly working round the clock to ensure the victory of Fintiri come March 11, guvernorship election in the state.

A source with latest information about the governor’s recent deals with Ribadu told our reporter that the governor used a senior APC stalwart from Ganye local government to convince Ribadu to key into his reelection bid with the promise that the gesture will be requited in 2027.

The source said in order to maintain fidelity to the deal, it was agreed that the governor will return to the APC after winning his second term bid so as to create the necessary atmosphere for the smooth handing over of power to Ribadu in 2027.

It was also agreed that upon defection to the APC, Fintiri will also forward the name of one of Aisha Buhari’s brothers who once aspired to lead the state as minister designate from Adamawa State.

Some of the terms of agreement according to our sources include deployment of huge sums of money to get a section of the APC machinery in Adamawa State to work against the interest of the guvernorship candidate of the party, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani.

The plan according to the source will entail the deployment of huge sums of money to ensure APC supporters dump their candidate and support the aspiration of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

In order to be on the safe side, the Nuhu Ribadu camp has reportedly demanded that a document containing the terms of the deal should be sealed as the camp is said to be wary of Fintiri especially in view of the fact that he has once betrayed an agreement with Nuhu Ribadu in the aftermath of governor Murtala Nyako’s impeachment.

“Accordingly, the governor of Jigawa state Mohammed Badaru Abubakar as well as his counterpart of Zamfara State Bello Matawalle have been chosen to witness the deal so as to prevent a possible backlash and perfidy by Fintiri,” our sources disclosed.

According to insiders, the deal will be implemented at the national and state levels. The operation at the national level is aimed at convincing the president elect, Bola Tinubu to accept the deal as the most expedient thing to do rather than allowing the party to lose election in the state.

The second operation will be done at the state level and will be spearheaded by the organizing secretary of the party, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu who will ensure that the party structure at the state level works against the ambition of Binani. It is said that Mustapha Ribadu has been carrying out his part of the deal as he was said to have unleashed a serious media war against the candidate of his party.

It is also revealed that in a bid to warm his way into the heart of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, governor Fintiri has also promised to make Adamu the heir apparent to the Dougirei government house in 2027.

Information pieced together by this paper revealed that the outcome of the just concluded presidential election in Adamawa State has shocked the governor to his marrows as he never envisaged even in his wildest imagination that Atiku will sweep the state in the manner he did.

Initially, Fintiri had envisaged that Atiku will lose the state to Tinubu as he thought the Muslim-Muslim ticket will receive overwhelming support of the Hausa/Fulani stock. However, the permutations somehow changed due to the belief that the Hausa/Fulani whose votes are predominantly for Buhari decided to go against the APC due to fuel scarcity and naira redesign policy which exposed people to harsh economic realities. Another reason for the overwhelming victory of Atiku has to do with the tacit endorsement of Atiku by the pro Buhari establishment who worked hard to ensure the defeat of the presidential candidate of the APC in Nigeria.

It is believed that out of the four hundred thousand votes garnered by Atiku in the presidential polls, about three hundred thousand came from the Hausa/Fulani establishment while about one hundred thousand came from the core PDP constituencies.

With this unsettling realization, it dawned on Fintiri, that Aisha Binani, his major opponent may coast to victory on a platter of gold as most of the three hundred thousand votes which came from the APC constituency will naturally go to her. And with the mutual distrust between him and Atiku, his only saving grace is to ensure being on the side of the Waziri of Adamawa.

Information available to us indicated that Fintiri who at best of times kept the former vice president at arms length suddenly became extremely loyal as he became very close to the former vice president. To even nudged the loyalty further, Fintiri was one of the seven PDP governors who filed a lawsuit to the supreme court challenging INEC over superficial conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections as they claimed the election was massively rigged.

Sources with the know how of happenings in the Atiku camp are wary of the latest antecedents of the governor and refused to be swayed by Fintiri’s renewed show of loyalty towards Atiku. A number of Atiku’s close lieutenants like Baba 10 have been vociferous in their opposition towards the governor’s second term ambition despite his open show of remorse and embrace of Atiku.

Similarly, Alh. Babangida Bushiyare, a trusted ally of the villa cabals who supported Atiku with all their might in a radio program said his group is fully mobilizing for Binani as revenge for Gov. Fintiri’s loyalty to Nyemson Wike instead of Waziri.

Again with the promise that he will anoint others, to occupy the plum seat, the question that readily comes to mind is the fate of Professor Liman Tukur whom the governor promised to make his successor when he assumed power in 2019.

Snippets and anecdotes about relationship between Fintiri and Professor Liman Tukur reveal that in the run up to the 2019 general election, Professor Liman Tukur enlisted the support of his brother Hassan Tukur to bankroll governor Fintiri’s ambition to rule the state with a promise to also handover power to Liman Tukur in 2027 after serving for eight years. In the same breadth, feelers from the Dougirei government house indicated that after he lost out with the Bamanga Tukur’s family following his failure to give Awwal D. Tukur the Adamawa central senatorial ticket, Fintiri has promised to compensate the family by making Awwal the next governor when he will exit the government house in 2027.

Again the promise which Fintiri made to CAN that he will anoint a Christian to succeed him is an open secret. The governor according to informed sources has sealed a pact with the christian community to the effect that he will ensure that a Christian succeeds him in 2027.

Like the case of Nuhu Ribadu, the christians also struct some bargains with the governor to ensure that they are not shortchanged. Part of the bargains entered stipulated that CAN will dissuade christians from getting into the guvernorship contest even in the small political parties so that the christian votes can go to Fintiri in block. That deal according to feelers is also responsible for the open declaration of support that CAN chairman in Adamawa State Bishop Dami Mamza accorded Fintiri.

In turn, the governor also promised to give christians more considerations in the implementation of some critical policies like employment, and award of scholarships and other very critical endeavours.

As the election draws nearer, the question on the lips of many is how does Fintiri intends to escape the snare of the Frankenstein monster he has delusionally created unscathed? Only time will tell.

Education Support: How Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation is putting smiles on faces of Nigerian school children

By Matthew Denis Abuja

Succour at last to thousands of Nigerian school children as Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation is gradually putting smiles on their faces through several donations and support projects to improve their pathetic situation across the country.

Princess Taiwo Oyepeju Ajisefinni is the
Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of
Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation (TAF) who has taken the ‘ cow by the horns’ to contribute her quota in the Education Sector towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 which is targeted at 2030 “to Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of Education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including disabilities, indigenous people and children in vulnerable situations.”

The Federal Government had announced that 2022 year the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria has dropped from 13 million to 6.9 million in 2020.

Speaking on this passion, Princess Ajisefinni revealed the foundation was birthed following a visit she made to Nigeria in 2008 after observing the agony school children encounter.

She said ” I noticed on a particular day, children leaving school for their various homes and saw that many of them were not adequately dressed and while some had schoolbags and others without bags. For a very long time, I complained about the way things were, I heard the stories and I complained and talked about how things should be.

“No matter how much I complained or lamented, I noticed that nothing changed and then it dawned on me that I, had to change. I had to stop complaining and do something. I had to bring that picture in my imagination to reality and that is what birthed the Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation (TAF). TAF has been set up to give hope to children and adults alike.

According to her the desire for education is to ensure that every child has access to quality education. After a few years of thinking about the best way to start, the foundation was registered in June ,2017 with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. TAF is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

The Chief Visionary Officer emphasized that the foundation seeks to provide educational support in various ways to children, especially those from indigent and underprivileged backgrounds.

“Our target is to reachout to as many schools as possible in Nigeria, especially those in rural communities. In 2016, TAF sponsored 19 people with physical disabilities by paying their fees to attend vocational courses to become solution providers in society.

“Our first school project was executed at a Primary school in Offa local Government of Kwara State were over 80 students benefited from the services we provided. Interestingly, since the completion of the first stage of the project in this school, parents, and relatives of children in the community and surrounding villages, have shown interest in enrolling their children in the school. The Foundation is also in the process of donating Lawn Tennis equipment to a school of over 2000 students in Ikeja, Lagos State.

She decried that there has been no collaboration yet with the government. However they are working towards collaborating with similar NGOs so that they can get a lot projects done for children in education to actualize the target and vision of the foundation.

” The plan towards collaborating with the government is in the pipeline as it is a means of delivering better results for all involved.

“Education is first and foremost not just the impartation of knowledge but also the assimilation of what is being taught and of life’s experiences. Quality education is therefore about the teacher and the taught: the student. Education is and always will be very important in building a strong foundation in one’s life. It is important that our children are educated, are up to date with current issues, and can provide knowledge to the next generation. Education is a strong building block in building a stronger and healthier community. As a community, it is our obligation to help a child develop their identity and be a contributing factor to society. We must refocus on the idea that a child is the centre of our community.

“The focus of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 is on ensuring that children have access to quality education and that the number of children that are out of school is reduced.

“With the number of out of school children announced by the federal government, evidence is showing that it has further recorded an impressive enrolment of school children in the last year. Therefore, more intervention from the government in synergy with Those, and like-minded individuals, there is bound to be more significant progress in the standard of education and learning outcomes.

“We plan to go anywhere we are needed, all over Nigeria. We are working on getting as many people as possible on board to be a support system and network for the NGO. Together, we will be able to do more. Our goal is to have stationed in every State, Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation volunteer teams. They will be responsible for locating the communities and schools where support is needed and then go on to oversee the execution of all that is needed.

The philanthropist stressed that the Foundation seeks to provide wholesome support to schools.

‘We aim to support everyone in the education chain – teachers and students alike. As we provide conducive learning atmospheres for the students, we will also ensure that the teachers have everything they need to provide quality education – training and teaching aids and ultimately achieve all learning outcomes. Our focus will be on ensuring that school children get a good education by making sure that the atmosphere is conducive to learning.
Together, we can give hope, support, educate and make a difference in the lives of school children one school at a time.

0ne Man, Many Parties; Kano’s Long Struggle with Political Monopoly

By Barrister Aminu Hussaini Sagagi

In the evolving theatre of Kano politics, the reported move by Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is being framed by his loyalists as yet another masterstroke of political relevance. But beneath the familiar choreography of defection lies a more uncomfortable truth, one that Kano’s politically conscious electorate must now confront with clarity and courage.

It is not a reinvention, as they euphorically claimed, it is a repetition. For decades, Kwankwaso has perfected a pattern of movement without ideological migration, defection without doctrinal evolution. From party to party, platform to platform, the constant has never been policy or principle; it has been personal centrality. The political vehicle may change, but the driver remains the same and the destination is invariably power concentrated in one man’s orbit.

For the first time in a long while, the choice before Kano electorates in 2027 is very clear – choosing between two political destinies; politics as personal preservation and politics as public evolution.

The ADC, in this context, risks becoming less a party and more an extension of a familiar enterprise; another platform recalibrated to sustain a personal political ecosystem. It is a model Kano knows too well; loyalty elevated above competence, structure subordinated to personality and dissent quietly erased in the name of movement cohesion.

This is the deeper question: At what point does political consistency give way to political monopoly?

Sen. Kwankwaso’s enduring strength has never been in institutional building but in emotional consolidation, the creation of a movement bound not by shared governance philosophy but by personal allegiance. Such a structure, while formidable in mobilization, is inherently fragile in transition. It struggles to outlive the will of its architect and resists the emergence of alternative voices within its fold. That is precisely where the contrast with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf becomes both striking and significant.

Governor Yusuf’s political realignment, controversial as it may appear on the surface, signals something Kano has long been denied, the assertion of institutional independence over inherited loyalty. In choosing to chart a course outside the shadow of political godfatherism, he has disrupted a long-standing orthodoxy that, leadership in Kano must be tethered to a singular political patriarch.

That was not merely a defection, it was a declaration. A declaration that governance must evolve beyond the boundaries of personal empires. That Kano’s future cannot remain perpetually negotiated within the inner circles of a single political lineage. That leadership must, at some point, belong fully to the people, not proximally to a benefactor.

Critics will argue that politics is, by nature, fluid, that movement between parties is neither new nor inherently problematic. And they would be correct. But fluidity becomes suspect when it consistently flows in one direction, towards the preservation of personal dominance rather than the advancement of public purpose.

What Kano now witnesses is a defining divergence in political philosophy. On one hand, a recycled trajectory, a seasoned tactician seeking renewed relevance through another platform, carrying forward a model anchored in personal command. On the other, an emergent assertion, a sitting governor boldly attempting, however imperfectly, to redraw the boundaries between mentorship and control, loyalty and autonomy.

This moment, therefore, is larger than party labels. It is about the ownership of Kano’s political future. Will it remain the extension of an enduring political dynasty, adaptable in platform but constant in control?
Or will it gradually transition into a more open, institution-driven system where leadership is negotiated by performance rather than predetermined by allegiance?

Sen. Kwankwaso’s move to ADC may yet reshape alliances, energize opposition and reconfigure the electoral map. But it also inadvertently sharpens a narrative that may prove far more consequential, the contrast between politics as personal preservation and politics as public evolution. In that contrast lies the real contest ahead. And perhaps, for the first time in a long while, Kano is not merely choosing between parties, it is choosing between two political destinies.

DSS Accused of Harassing Aspirant Over Hunting Rifle, Middle Belt Forum Cries Foul

Mike Udenyi

Lafia, Nigeria – The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has accused the Nasarawa State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Hassan Abdullahi, of harassment and intimidation against a federal constituency aspirant, Hon. Terry Tsala.

In a strongly worded press statement issued on March 30, 2026, the MBF’s National Publicity Officer, Luka Binniyat, expressed alarm over what he described as a pattern of targeting citizens seeking lawful means of self-defense amidst rising insecurity in the region.

According to Binniyat, Hon. Tsala, who is vying to represent the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, recently procured a locally made hunting gun from a licensed maker. The MBF spokesman stated that this was a lawful step taken by the aspirant to protect himself, a practice he described as “normal for the few that can afford it in many communities facing insecurity in the Middle Belt.”

The situation escalated when, according to Binniyat, Mr. Hassan Abdullahi ordered the arrest of Hon. Tsala on alleged charges of ordering five hunting rifles—a claim the aspirant has firmly denied. The forum alleged that Tsala has been summoned repeatedly to the DSS office in Lafia and is being pressured to admit to an accusation he rejects.

“We must state it clearly: hunting guns are not illegal when properly obtained,” the statement reads, citing Section 33 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and the right to self-defense.

Binniyat went further to accuse the Nasarawa DSS director of acting in the interest of “those terrorizing our land,” arguing that his actions are designed to keep local populations helpless. The forum noted that Nasarawa State has become a staging ground for attacks on neighboring Middle Belt states, including Benue, Plateau, and Taraba.

The MBF spokesman highlighted a contradiction between the actions of the state DSS director and the recent public stance of the DSS Director General, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, who called on communities to serve as the “first line of defense” against terrorists.

“How can people defend themselves when officers are arresting them for trying to get even the most basic lawful tools?” Binniyat queried.

The forum is now calling on the federal government to establish a “proper and supervised system” for the mass production and lawful, affordable distribution of basic defense tools to citizens. It also threatened to cooperate with international interests, stating that it is ready to provide information to the United States regarding the “ongoing genocide in the Middle Belt.”

Binniyat concluded with a stark warning, holding the state DSS director personally accountable for the aspirant’s safety.

“Finally, we make it very clear: if anything happens to Hon. Terry Tsala, the MBF will know who to hold responsible,” the statement concluded.

Efforts to reach the Nasarawa State DSS command for a response regarding the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.

ECN Felicitates Tinubu on Birthday, Commends Energy Reforms

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his birthday, lauding his leadership and commitment to national development, particularly in the energy sector.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Commission, the Director-General of the ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, described the President as a courageous leader whose reform-driven governance has continued to inspire confidence and optimism across the country.

Abdullahi noted that Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated strong resolve in repositioning Nigeria’s energy landscape, with a clear focus on sustainability and innovation. He particularly highlighted the President’s support for solarisation initiatives and the transition to renewable energy, which he said have significantly improved power access in key sectors.

According to him, over 37 health institutions, tertiary institutions, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as several rural and urban communities, have benefited from solar energy interventions within the last three years.

He further commended the President’s role as Chairman of the ECN Board, noting that his practical commitment to energy reforms is laying a solid foundation for resilience, innovation, and sustainable national development.

“Your courageous leadership, firm resolve, and bold reform-driven governance continue to serve as a springboard for a renewed Nigeria,” Abdullahi stated.

The ECN boss also acknowledged the President’s broader impact across critical sectors, describing his leadership as instrumental in driving national progress.

He prayed for God to grant the President renewed wisdom, good health, and long life to continue steering the country toward greater prosperity.

“Happy Birthday, Mr. President,” the statement added, celebrating Tinubu as a leader committed to the advancement of Nigeria.

Shehu Sani Condoles El-Rufai Over Mother’s Death

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has condoled with former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, over the death of his mother.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday, Sani described the passing as a profound loss not only to the El-Rufai family but also to Kaduna State and the nation at large.

He paid glowing tribute to the deceased, commending her life of service, community leadership, and the enduring legacy of her motherly care and guidance.

“Her death is a great loss to Kaduna State and the nation at large. We appreciate her life, community leadership, and motherly love,” he said.

Sani also prayed for the repose of her soul, asking Allah to forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljannatul Firdaus. He further prayed for strength and comfort for El-Rufai and his family in this moment of grief.

“May Allah console the heart of our former Governor and his family members,” he added.

Reflecting on a personal connection, the former lawmaker noted that the deceased was also the mother of his late childhood friend, Ibrahim Iro El-Rufai, who died in a tragic road accident in 2014.

He concluded with the Islamic expression, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” meaning, “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

Kano First: The Landmark Ruling That Validates Governor Yusuf’s Bold Shift.

By Barrister Aminu Hussaini Sagagi

In moments of political turbulence, leadership is ultimately judged not by loyalty to structures in crises, but by fidelity to the people one serves. The recent ruling of the Apo Judicial Division of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, which recognized the Boniface Aniebonam faction of the NNPP as the legally authentic party and directed INEC accordingly, has brought a decisive clarity to what had long been an increasingly murky and destabilizing internal conflict.

For the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, this judicial pronouncement does more than settle a factional dispute, it vindicates a decision that, at the time it was made, attracted fierce criticism but was rooted in pragmatic foresight and responsibility.

When the Governor chose to part ways with the faction aligned to Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the dominant narrative pushed by critics was one of betrayal. Yet, with the benefit of unfolding events and now the weight of judicial affirmation, it is increasingly evident that the decision was not about political convenience but about safeguarding the stability of Kano State.

At the heart of the matter lies a simple but propound principle that governance cannot thrive in the shadow of legal uncertainty and factional paralysis. The protracted crisis within the NNPP had already begun to cast a long shadow over its elected officials, raising legitimate concerns about party legitimacy, electoral mandates and the risks of prolonged litigations.

For a sitting Governor, the implications were stark; whether to remain entangled in a party facing existential legal disputes or chart a course that ensures continuity of governance and protects the mandate entrusted by the people. Governor Yusuf chose the latter.
His defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) must therefore be understood not as an abandonment of political ideals, but as an act of strategic recalibration in the interest of the people. By stepping away from a party embroiled in internal contradictions, now confirmed by the court’s recognition of a rival faction, he effectively insulated Kano from the kind of instability that often accompanies prolonged political and legal crises.

Critically, this move also positioned the state to benefit from stronger alignment with the federal government. In Nigeria’s political economy, access matters. Federal collaboration can accelerate infrastructure development, enhance security coordination and unlock economic opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach. In this regard, the governor’s decision reflects a clear prioritization of outcomes over optics and of tangible progress over partisan rigidity.

It is also worth noting that leadership sometimes requires the courage to endure temporary misunderstanding in pursuit of long-term stability. The initial backlash that greeted the governor’s move was, in many ways, inevitable in a political environment deeply shaped by loyalty to personalities and movements. However, as the internal contradictions within the NNPP have now been laid bare through judicial intervention, the logic underpinning Governor AKY’s decision becomes increasingly difficult to dispute.

This is not to suggest that political realignments are without consequence or controversy. They are, by nature, disruptive. But disruption, when guided by a clear commitment to public interest, can be a necessary prelude to stability and progress.
The unfolding reality, therefore, invites a reaffirming of the narrative. Rather than viewing the governor’s defection through the narrow lens of partisan allegiance, it should be seen within the broader context of responsible governance. Faced with a party in disarray and risk of legal and political uncertainty, Abba Kabir Yusuf chose a path that prioritized Kano first, its stability, its development and its future.

In the final analysis, history tends to be kinder to decisions that place people above politics. The recent court ruling does not merely resolve a party dispute, it underscores a deeper truth that in times of crisis, decisive leadership anchored in the public good will always find its justification.
Kano deserves stability; Kano deserves progress and above all, Kano deserves leadership that is willing to make difficult choices.

Dantsoho @57: Maritime Momentum Master

By Abdullahi Sabiu

Fresh from a defining moment on the global stage in Japan, where he secured a prestigious international maritime leadership role, Abubakar Dantsoho clocks 57 with his profile not just rising at home, but commanding recognition across the world’s maritime corridors.

It is a fitting milestone for a man whose steady hand is fast redefining Nigeria’s port ecosystem.

At the helm of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dantsoho has emerged as a quiet reformer with global relevance—bridging local execution with international credibility. His recent recognition abroad is more than ceremonial; it is a validation of reforms taking root within Nigeria’s once-troubled port system.

Since assuming office, he has steered the NPA away from chronic inefficiencies toward a culture of discipline, coordination, and forward planning. Congestion is being confronted, processes are being streamlined, and the long-overdue march toward port digitisation is gaining traction. The result is a system gradually shedding its old image and embracing operational clarity.

Dantsoho’s leadership is defined by resolve rather than rhetoric. He understands that ports are not just terminals—they are economic lifelines.

Under his watch, every improvement in cargo clearance, every reduction in turnaround time, and every increase in transparency feeds directly into national productivity and investor confidence.

What sets him apart is his ability to navigate a complex web of stakeholders without losing focus. The maritime sector, long burdened by entrenched interests, is yielding—slowly but surely—to a new order driven by accountability and shared purpose.

Now, with global recognition reinforcing his local reforms, Dantsoho stands at a unique intersection: a technocrat with both domestic impact and international voice.

His growing influence signals that Nigeria is no longer content with being a passive player in global maritime affairs.

At 57, his journey reflects discipline, depth, and direction. Not loud, not flamboyant—but effective, strategic, and increasingly impossible to ignore.

As Nigeria pushes to unlock the vast potential of its blue economy, one thing is becoming clear: the momentum is real—and Dantsoho is firmly at its centre.

ECN, Nigerian Air Force Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost National Security via Renewable Energy

Complete Story:

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and the Nigerian Air Force have initiated a strategic partnership to enhance energy security and support anti-terrorism operations through renewable energy solutions. This development follows a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force, led by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal E. K. Gabkwet, and the Chief of Logistics, AVM A. I. Sambo, to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Air Vice Marshal Gabkwet expressed appreciation to the Director General of ECN, Dr. Abdullahi, for granting the audience and conveyed the goodwill of the Chief of the Air Staff. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing renewable energy solutions to support anti-terrorism operations. He also requested technical training support from ECN for Air Force personnel and pledged the Air Force’s assistance in logistics, transportation, and other operational areas.

In his remarks, Dr. Abdullahi described the engagement as historic, noting that it is the first of its kind between the ECN and the military. He reiterated the Commission’s mandate to ensure national energy security and highlighted key policy frameworks, including the National Energy Policy (NEP) and the National Energy Master Plan (NEMP).

The Director-General further outlined ongoing solarisation projects in healthcare facilities and tertiary institutions, assuring the delegation that similar initiatives would be extended to the Nigerian Air Force. He also announced the immediate deployment of solar-powered lighting solutions to support Air Force operations.

Copies of the NEP and NEMP were presented to the delegation, and both parties affirmed that the partnership marks the beginning of sustained collaboration aimed at advancing national development and security.

The meeting was attended by ECN directors and members of the Air Force delegation, including AVM C. E. Akpa, Air Commodore L. O. Wabriboko, Air Commodore A. T. Adejimi, I. O. Akpasa, Squadron Leader A. B. Gambo, and Flight Lieutenant A. M. Aondoakaa.

Legal Battle for Four-Day Work Week Gains Momentum as Appeal Court Hears Case

Abdul Abdulahi

KADUNA – A wave of anticipation swept through the legal community in Kaduna on Wednesday as the Court of Appeal commenced hearings in a landmark case that could redefine the work and school week for millions of residents in Kaduna State.

The appeal, brought by legal practitioner Gloria Mabeiam Ballason, challenges the constitutionality of the four-day work and schooling week introduced by former Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai. The policy, which took effect on December 1, 2021, has remained in place, sparking a significant legal debate about its impact on productivity and education.

In what legal observers are calling a pivotal moment for administrative law in the state, a seasoned panel of justices presided over the case. The Coram comprised Hon. Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi, Hon. Justice Abimbola Osarugue Obaseki-Adejumo, and Hon. Justice Sybil Onyeji Nwaka-Gbagi, signalling the weight the appellate court places on the matter.

The courtroom was charged with intellectual rigor as Ballason, representing herself, adopted her brief of argument. She passionately urged the justices to allow the appeal, contending that the executive order oversteps constitutional bounds and has adversely affected workforce productivity and the academic calendar of school children.

On the other side, the legal machinery of the state government was in full force. The Attorney General of Kaduna State, Dr. J.A. Kanyip, led a formidable legal team—including A.A. Aku, S.M. Gamaliel, M.P. Danjuma, and Koni Tauna—to defend the policy. They adopted their brief and urged the court to uphold the ruling of the lower court and dismiss the appeal. Notably, the Minister of Interior, listed as the 4th Respondent, was unrepresented despite proof of service.

After a thorough session where all sides presented their arguments, the presiding justices reserved judgment, leaving the state’s workforce, parents, and students in eager anticipation of a ruling that could either validate a unique approach to governance or steer the state back to the traditional five-day structure.

The judgment, once delivered, is expected to have far-reaching implications for the rhythm of life in Kaduna State.

Kaduna Governor Lauded for Championing Women’s Reserved Seats Bill, as State Emerges as Hub for Gender Advocacy

By Mike Makawa Abuja

A former Administrator of Jaba Local Government Area in Kaduna State, women’s rights advocate, and filmmaker, Nita Byack George, has praised Governor Uba Sani for fostering a political environment that actively supports the push for the Reserved Seats for Women Bill, currently before the National Assembly.

Byack made the commendation on Sunday while marking International Women’s Day, spotlighting Kaduna State’s increasing prominence as a strategic centre for initiatives aimed at boosting female political representation, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

She noted that the state has recently hosted several pivotal engagements that have significantly advanced national advocacy for the bill. According to Byack, one of the earliest major initiatives took place on December 5, 2025, during the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. On that day, Kaduna convened its first State Advocacy Power Table, a forum dedicated entirely to discussions on the proposed legislation.

The meeting, organised by Byack—widely known as “the Administrator”—in collaboration with the Nigerian League of Women Voters (NILOWV) and the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), brought together lawmakers, women leaders, civil society organisations, students, and development partners. Participants lauded the session as a crucial step, moving the campaign beyond public awareness into structured legislative dialogue at both state and federal levels.

Byack further highlighted a landmark event on January 29, 2026, when Kaduna hosted the Northwest Regional Advocacy Forum on the Reserved Seats for Women Bill. The forum was led by the Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Munirat Sulieman Tanimu, and united women leaders and political stakeholders from across the region.

The presence of top government officials underscored the state’s commitment. Governor Uba Sani attended the forum alongside his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe; the governor’s wife, Hafsatu Uba Sani; and the National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mary Alile. Byack stated that this high-level participation demonstrated tangible political will and reassured advocates that the Kaduna State Government is a firm ally in the fight for gender-inclusive reforms.

Beyond direct political advocacy, Byack noted that cultural platforms are also playing a role. The Arewa International Film Festival, founded by actress Rahama Sadau and hosted in Kaduna, provided an additional avenue to amplify discussions on women in leadership, proving that dialogue on inclusive governance can thrive across various sectors.

Byack asserted that the Kaduna State Government’s support for political, legislative, and cultural platforms has been instrumental in creating safe spaces for women to organise, engage policymakers, and shape national conversations on constitutional reform.

She expressed strong optimism that as the Reserved Seats for Women Bill approaches decisive stages in the National Assembly, Kaduna will continue to serve as a model for how subnational governments can champion women’s political participation.

“The sustained backing from Governor Uba Sani is not just encouraging for us in Kaduna; it sends a powerful signal to legislators and stakeholders nationwide,” Byack said. She added that this visible political commitment could be the catalyst that increases the bill’s chances of eventual passage, paving the way for a more inclusive democracy in Nigeria.

Leadership Beyond Office: The Distinctive Personas of Nuhu Ribadu and Governor Umar Namadi

By Yunusa Hamza (Farin Dutse)

Leadership in its truest sense transcends the mere occupation of public office. It is defined not simply by authority, but by the character, discipline and sense of purpose that leaders bring to governance. In Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape, the question of leadership quality remains central to national discourse. Citizens increasingly seek leaders whose actions reflect integrity, accountability and a genuine commitment to public service.

Within this context, two contemporary public figures stand out for the clarity of their convictions and the strength of their leadership identities. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, represent distinctive yet complementary approaches to leadership and governance. Although they operate in different spheres of responsibility, one at the national level and the other within the subnational space, their leadership styles demonstrate how personality and character shape policy direction and governance outcomes.

Nuhu Ribadu’s public identity has for decades been closely associated with courage, reformist zeal and an uncompromising stance on accountability. His rise to national prominence began during his tenure in the anti corruption fight, where he earned a reputation as a principled reformer determined to challenge entrenched systems of abuse and impunity.
Today, as National Security Adviser, Ribadu occupies one of the most strategic positions within Nigeria’s governance architecture. In this role, his leadership style continues to reflect the same attributes that defined his earlier public service. Discipline, institutional thinking and strategic focus remain central to his approach.

Ribadu embodies a leadership persona grounded in firmness and clarity of purpose. His approach prioritises strong institutions, coordinated security structures and long term national stability. Rather than seeking personal acclaim, his leadership reflects a technocratic orientation driven by systems, procedures and institutional discipline.
In times of national uncertainty, particularly within the complex terrain of security management, such traits inspire confidence. Ribadu’s public persona communicates seriousness of purpose and a commitment to confronting threats to national stability with resolve and strategic coordination. His leadership reminds observers that effective governance often requires leaders who are willing to confront difficult realities while strengthening the institutional frameworks that sustain the state.
While Ribadu’s leadership operates within the high stakes arena of national security, Governor Umar Namadi represents a different yet equally significant model of leadership at the state level. His governance approach reflects humility, accessibility and a deep commitment to grassroots engagement.
Governor Namadi has placed considerable emphasis on dialogue between government and citizens. One of the most notable initiatives under his administration is the Citizens Engagement Programme popularly known as Gwamnati da Jama’a. Through this initiative, citizens across Jigawa State’s twenty seven local government areas are provided with a platform to directly express their needs, concerns and expectations to government officials.

The programme also allows government to communicate its ongoing projects and policy priorities to the public. In doing so, it has strengthened transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance. By opening channels of communication between leaders and the people, the initiative reinforces democratic values and strengthens public trust in government institutions.
Governor Namadi’s leadership identity is also distinguished by what may be described as developmental pragmatism. His administration has focused on practical governance outcomes, including infrastructure development, institutional strengthening and policies aimed at improving the socio economic wellbeing of citizens.
Rather than relying on political slogans, personality driven politics or inherited partisan loyalty, the governor has built his political relevance around governance performance. This approach has contributed to a governance narrative that emphasises steady progress, responsible management of public resources and the pursuit of sustainable development.

In a political environment where rhetoric often overshadows implementation, the emphasis on measurable outcomes represents a refreshing shift. By prioritising delivery over declaration, Governor Namadi has demonstrated that performance in governance can serve as a powerful instrument of political legitimacy.

Equally important is the political dimension of his leadership. At the level of party politics, Governor Namadi has demonstrated calculated political organisation through the consolidation of party structures and grassroots mobilisation. These efforts have strengthened political stability while reinforcing the influence of the All Progressives Congress within the state.
Notably, this consolidation has been achieved largely through governance driven legitimacy rather than coercive political tactics. Development initiatives and social programmes have simultaneously served as instruments of public service and sources of political credibility. In this sense, governance outcomes have become central to sustaining public support.

When viewed together, the leadership trajectories of Nuhu Ribadu and Umar Namadi illustrate two complementary dimensions of governance in Nigeria. Ribadu symbolises national vigilance, reform oriented thinking and institutional discipline within the country’s security architecture. Namadi represents grassroots engagement, stability and pragmatic development within the framework of subnational governance.

While Ribadu operates within the strategic theatre of national security management, Namadi functions within the practical laboratory of state administration. Yet despite these differences, both leaders share common attributes that define effective leadership. Discipline, commitment to reform and a clear departure from empty political rhetoric are among the traits that connect their approaches.

Their contrasting styles also illustrate an important truth about leadership. Governance is multidimensional. At certain moments, leadership requires firmness and the courage to confront systemic threats. At other times, it demands patience, dialogue and the steady construction of development frameworks that improve the lives of citizens.

Ribadu’s leadership energy is largely directed toward confronting threats and strengthening institutional resilience. Namadi’s leadership focuses on building structures that promote social progress and economic stability. Together, these approaches highlight the different but equally important roles that leadership can play within a functioning democracy.
Ultimately, the examples of Nuhu Ribadu and Umar Namadi underscore a fundamental lesson for Nigeria’s leadership culture. Leadership that is anchored in character often proves more enduring than leadership driven solely by charisma. Institutions grow stronger where leaders choose structure over spectacle and governance over personal acclaim.

As Nigeria continues to navigate complex governance challenges, the importance of disciplined and purposeful leadership cannot be overstated. The experiences of Ribadu and Namadi demonstrate that effective leadership does not always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it appears in decisive action to protect national stability. At other times it emerges through patient engagement with citizens and the steady pursuit of development.
In both cases, the defining factor remains the same. Leadership is most impactful when it is authentic, disciplined and aligned with the responsibilities of public office. In a democratic society striving for stronger institutions and accountable governance, such leadership remains not only desirable but essential.
